Describe OpenLab in one word.

What does inclusive innovation mean to you?

We believe that the success of innovation can be measured by the positive impact it has on people’s lives. We have seen time and time again that innovation has a much more positive impact on everyone's lives if it does not exclude. Gathering insight from disabled people drives better solutions for all because we are able to see a problem at its most acute.

Why do you think accessibility for disabled people is such an important issue now?

All people deserve equal opportunities and freedom. It is more important now than ever to think about this because the world is changing more rapidly than ever before. We all have a right to share in this progress equally. The rise of digital has had a positive impact on so many people’s lives, however it has highlighted social inequality because as it creates opportunities for so many it highlights the gap between those who have and those who don't. This could be the same when it comes to access and technological progress. We have the chance to demand that the future is positive for everyone.

Where do you think the next big opportunity is for the development of inclusive technology?

If people can start working together through a community like OpenLab, the opportunities are enormous to drive real change and new solutions to problems. Technology is progressing so fast now and is capable of supporting a huge shift in the way we see disability. For us one of the most exciting areas of opportunity is around technologies that enable people in the workplace. As a creative company we see enormous value in diversity. Teams of people with diverse cultures, abilities and experiences have the most potential for creativity and for solving problems in a truly inclusive way.
